Dr. Vetty Agala Joins Other Health Experts In Abuja To Advocate For Data Visibility To Strengthen BHCPF At Business Day Health

The Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) and Secretary Forum of CEOs of State Social Health Insurance Agencies(SSHIA) in Nigeria, Dr. Vetty Agala has joined other health experts in advocating for data visibility to build trust and strengthen the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) in Nigeria.
The health experts bore their minds in advocating for the strengthening of the funds during the just concluded 2026 Business Day Health Conference, which was held in Abuja on Thursday, September 10th, 2026, with the theme: " Building Trust, Building System: strengthening the BHCPF for Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The health conference brought together policymakers, healthcare leaders, development partners and industry experts to deliberate on strategies for building stronger health systems, promoting sustainable healthcare financing and restoring public trust to improve healthcare delivery for millions of Nigerians.
Speaking during one of the strategic panel sessions, Dr. Agala stressed the importance of data transparency and online visibility in building public confidence and strengthening the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
She noted that relevant data should be made publicly accessible, online, particularly information showing the number of people enrolled and those accessing and utilising healthcare services through the BHCPF.
According to her, making such information visible would promote transparency, strengthen accountability, and enable stakeholders and the public to better understand how healthcare interventions and resources are being utilised.
Dr. Agala further emphasised that accountability must be upheld at every level of the healthcare delivery system, from healthcare workers at facility level to managers and other stakeholders responsible for providing and overseeing healthcare services.
She maintained that collective responsibility, transparency, and accountability are essential to building a healthcare system that earns public trust and effectively advances the goal of Universal Health Coverage in Nigeria.
